Your information stays yours

What we keep: nothing
There are no accounts, no sign-ups, and no servers holding your health information. Everything you enter — your plan, your medications, your drain log, your dose history — is stored in your browser on your own device, using the same kind of storage a website uses to remember your settings.
We cannot see it. We cannot recover it. Nobody else can read it unless they have your unlocked phone.
What happens to a photo you scan
If you use "Scan your instructions," the photo is sent — over an encrypted connection — to our small server, which passes it to Anthropic's Claude AI to be read. The extracted text comes back to your phone for you to review.
- The photo is held only for the seconds it takes to read it, then discarded.
- It is never written to a database, a file, or a backup.
- It is not used to train any AI model.
- The resulting plan is saved only on your device, and only after you confirm it.
If you would rather no photo ever leave your phone, use "Set up by hand" instead. Everything in the app works exactly the same either way.
Why you review everything
AI reading can misread a smudged number or a cramped line. That is why nothing extracted from a photo is ever saved automatically. You see every medication, dose, date, and warning on a review screen first, with the original wording from your packet shown underneath, and you correct anything that is wrong before it becomes your plan.
Your paper instructions are always the authority. The app is a convenience, not a source of truth.
About the drain readiness indicator
When the app says a drain "meets the removal rule," it is only doing arithmetic on the numbers you typed, using the threshold from your own packet. It is a prompt to have a conversation, not a clinical judgment. Only your care team decides when a drain comes out.
Sharing, and deleting
Nothing is shared unless you tap Share or print a report — then it goes wherever you send it. To erase everything, clear this site's data in your browser settings, or delete the app from your home screen and clear the site data. Because nothing is stored anywhere else, that removes it completely.
Children
Care Companion is intended for adults managing their own recovery, or for a caregiver managing it alongside them. It is not directed at children.
